Dogs at Le Tertre

Here at Le Tertre we’re determined to be more than just dog-friendly.

We want to offer our four-legged guests an experience that’s truly ‘dog-welcoming’!

As we’re currently owned by two Rhodesian Ridgebacks (seen here supervising the gardening!) we’ve had countless holiday experiences that have taught us what dog-friendly accommodation should and shouldn’t be.

We know what it’s like when they won’t settle. When you daren’t let them out unsupervised in case they take off after the neighbours cat, and when the advertised ‘secure garden’ is actually a 3m square piece of decking!

With all of these learnings, we want to make Le Tertre somewhere that truly welcomes dogs, and where owners can actually relax and enjoy their holiday!

What Makes Us Already ‘Dog-Friendly’…

For our three cottages where we welcome dogs, we’ve added fully enclosed fences. For the smaller cottages, we don’t accept dogs in the middle gîte so there’ll never be any unwanted encounters at the fence! (Just in case)

We’ve added gates at the back of each garden that leads to an extended wooded area. We’ll be doing some improvements to this area later in the year but for now it’s just some extra sniffing-space!

We make sure every cottage has our local Vets details, just in case you need some reassurance or help during your stay.

They’re super friendly and have English speaking receptionists and Vets if it’s helpful.

How Will We Become ‘Dog-Welcoming’…

This Autumn we’re planting hedges to provide a more solid divide between the gardens, just to give the doggies (and you) some more privacy. (AI has helped us imagine how it will look!)

We’re adding carpet stair treads to the wooden staircases in two of our cottages, to help doggies feel more confident when following you up and down the stairs. (They all do it!)

We’ve linked up with Verity, a local dog-sitter who’s happy to come and sit with your bestie for times when it’s just not possible for them to tag along. She’ll also welcome them to her home if you prefer.

…and because all of our four-legged guests deserve the best welcome, we’re upgrading our treats to include blankets for Autumn! (will look something like this!)

A little further afield there’s plenty more to explore together, whether you prefer an amble around a picturesque lake or a more challenging hike over rugged terrain, it’s all doable during your stay.

The Wall of Paws🐾

To celebrate all of our amazing four-legged guests, we’ve created the Le Tertre Wall of Paws!

We’ll be asking all of our guest to send us a picture of their faithful holiday companion, whether it’s enjoying their Normandy walks or snoozing in front of the fire after a long day spent exploring.

We’ll add each and every one to the wall, which guests can see on our website. It’ll make sure we don’t forget a single one of our beloved furry visitors!

The Hoomans Bit…

I hope you agree that we’re doing good things at Le Tertre to make your Normandy holiday with your dog as good as it can be, and we’ll continue to look for ways to improve.

There’s a few things we ask of you during your stay to help to keep hoomans happy and tails wagging…

Bring extra throws and blankets to protect the furniture. We know it’s unavoidable!

Bring towels and wipe muddy paws before your dog comes into the cottage.

Be poo aware! Pick it up regularly and use the bin provided.

Think of our next guests!

We’re surrounded by inquisitive cattle, sheep and horses. Please keep your dog on a lead to keep things friendly!

In the hot weather, please walk your dog very early or late in the evening. Bring cooling items like collars and mats too.

In case we have other guests who aren’t as keen on dogs, please walk your dog on the lead between your cottage and your car.

We can’t wait to welcome you, your family, your friends and of course your furry companions to Le Tertre.

Use the contact us form below to enquire about accommodation and availability, or if you just have a general enquiry…

We hope to see you soon! 🐾
