Beautiful Saint Céneri le Gérei

When we first discovered Le Tertre, it was the peace, the countryside and the beautiful surrounding area that captured us. Every time we return, we love discovering more and more such as new quaint villages, different local food producers and the best that this region has to offer…

Lassay-les-Châteaux

One of Frances ‘Petite Cité de Caractère’, Lassay has quaint cobbled streets, many traditional shops including a fabulous Fromagerie and Patisserie and of course the beautiful Châteaux Lassay overlooking the lake.There’s also the beautiful Rose Gardens and on most French public holidays the town comes to life with markets and street food!

St-Céneri-le-Gérei

In the heart of Les Alpes Mancelles, this charming little village is just bursting with character! Picture perfect stone cottages line the winding streets and you can take a peaceful walk alongside the River Sarthe. There’s an abundance of history surrounding the village, starting with the Italian Hermit it is named after in the 7th century. St-Léonard-des-Bois nearby is a little bigger with more going on and definitely worth a visit too!

Domfront en Poiraie

Our nearest town and it’s a gem! This old medieval town is another ‘Petite Cité de Caractère’. The remains of the Château de Domfront date back to the 11th century and the panoramic views are quite something! When you’re done walking the cobbled streets a couple of our favourite restaurants are here… L’Echauguette for an Italian treat or local ‘Galettes’ in Le Bistro St Julien are both well worth sampling!

Fougères

Actually over the border in Brittanybut this beautiful town from the middle ages is a big tourist draw in the area. The castle is simply exceptional with its 13 towers and you can walk inside the eerie dungeons! The town itself has plenty going on and after you walk the climb back up from the castle treat yourself to an indulgent ice cream from Glaces Moustache!

Granville Beach

About a 75 minute drive from Le Tertre but if you fancy a day trip to the coast than this should definitely be on your list! A bustling town with plenty of shops and eateries and a fabulous sandy beach with it’s own sea water swimming pool! A must for when the weather heats up. Do check the tide times before travelling and also the dog restrictions on the beach at certain times of year.

Local Cider and Poiré Producers

Le Tertre isright in heart of the Poiré region and you’d be missing out if you didn’t visit one of the many local producers whilst you’re here. Pacory-Ferme des Grimaux in Mantilly is just a 24 minute drive. You can hear all about the history of this family run producer before sampling the Poiré, Cider and Calvados! The Ferme Des Martellières near Juvigny is another fabulous option.

Local Markets

Everybody that visits us seems to love to seek out the local markets! They vary in size but you can find them in Domfront, Ambrières-les-Vallées and in Ceaucé itself to name just a few. Local cheese, fish and saucisson are always on show and many also have tempting deserts as well as clothing.

We hope you enjoy exploring the many wonders of Normandy (and Brittany!) as much as we do. These are just a tiny few of what’s actually on offer.
